Quiet hunting in the Carpathians: mushroom season with Phoenix

There are two types of mountain recreation: the one where you have to run, and the one where you have to walk slowly and look under your feet. Silent hunting belongs to the second type. No guns: just a knife, a container for mushrooms and a willingness to be silent for at least ten minutes at a time. Phoenix Relax Park offers silent hunting in Bukovel every Sunday during the mushroom season: with a guide, transfer, lunch box and a Carpathian dinner at the end. We tell you how a mushroom hike in Bukovel goes, what to bring with you and how to behave in the forest so that you return with a full basket, not with adventures.

What is silent hunting and why has it become an autumn hit?

The name confuses only those who hear it for the first time. Silent hunting is mushroom picking: the prey does not run away, but the excitement does not go away. In autumn, the forest smells of wet leaves and needles, the air is cool, and the fog leaves the mountains by lunchtime. That's when a mushroom hunt stops being a walk and turns into a small quest: who will be the first to notice the white mushroom, and then find out that he was not alone.

In Phoenix, silent hunting is described as atmospheric hike through the Carpathian forest with an experienced guide Ivan: a leisurely search for porcini mushrooms and wild berries, panoramic views and a few hours in nature. No one will guarantee the harvest, because it is determined by the weather and the mood of the forest. This is hunting, not a supermarket.

It's not for nothing that the quiet hunting page invites you to "open the mushroom season with Phoenix." At this time, the forest is damp, the air is cool, and cloudy days, which usually spoil the mood on vacation, suddenly become allies: mushrooms love moisture, and you love the lack of heat on the rise.

How is the mushroom hike from Phoenix going?

The program is simpler than it might seem, and yet it is well thought out from start to finish:

  • meeting every Sunday at 9:00 am near the Phoenix Relax Park reception
  • round-trip transfer (village Tatariv / village Yablunytsia)
  • hiking in the forest and searching for white mushrooms and wild berries
  • Yagodna mountain range at an altitude of 1216-1231 m, from where the Chornohirsky and Gorgansky ridges are visible
  • lunch box on the go
  • Carpathian lunch after the hike

The entire route takes 3.5-4 hours. This is not a marathon: the pace is set by the forest and your ability to stop at every suspiciously beautiful stump. If you have any doubts about a find, ask the guide, not the Internet: Ivan's page says "experienced", but the Internet says no.

Who is it for and what to expect

A sports uniform and a mushroom diploma are not required for a quiet hunt. The format is unhurried: most of the time you walk through the forest, stop, bend down, look around, and walk again. Therefore, a quiet hunt is suitable for a couple who wants to spend the morning without screens, a group of friends, and a family with children (there is a separate tariff for children under 12). The only honest advice: assess the strength of the younger participants in advance, because 3.5-4 hours in the mountains is still not a walk in the park.

Beginners sometimes think that without experience they will only get in the way. But the route is with a guide, so move alongside, see where he is looking, and don't be shy to ask. And for those who just want to be in nature, the forest will give what they come here for: silence, the smell of pine needles, and a view from the Yahidna meadow to the Chornohirsky ridge, where Hoverla, the highest peak in Ukraine, stands, and to the Gorgansky ridge.

What to bring and how much it costs

The program lists the necessary equipment: a knife, boots, a container for mushrooms and herbs, and a raincoat. The rest is up to you: warm clothes in layers, a hat, comfortable pants, and a spare pair of dry socks, which becomes the most valuable thing in the world in the valley. Mushrooms are a thing of wet forests, so dry clothes in your backpack are not a reinsurance policy, but a way to make friends with the forecast.

The cost of participation is 2500 UAH for adults and 1500 UAH for children under 12 years old. You can sign up by calling 068 703 00 11 or in Telegram. One caveat: the route may be postponed due to adverse weather. This is normal in the mountains, the forest did not sign a contract for clear skies. The backup plan on such days is obvious: Phoenix SPA complex with a hammam, sauna and warm water, which we described in detail in the article about swimming pool, artificial sea and SPA for two.

Rules of the Silent Hunter: Four Tips for Beginners

Mushrooms don't like haste and surprises, so you should take a few rules with you before you go out:

  • only pick mushrooms that you know well; if in doubt, don't pick them or show them to the guide
  • cut the mushroom with a knife at the base or carefully twist it without trampling everything around it
  • put the prey in a container where the mushrooms do not suffocate: in a closed bag they spoil quickly
  • Look under your feet: wet leaves are slippery, and 3.5-4 hours in the mountains is not a walk along the embankment

And one more rule that doesn’t need to be written down: the forest remains a forest after you. Take your trash with you, don’t trample the moss and undergrowth unnecessarily, and don’t kick over mushrooms you don’t need: they’re also part of the forest. And don’t rush to conclusions about the harvest. Sometimes the best mushroom of the day is the one you noticed at the very beginning, and you spend two hours pretending you found it by accident.

How to Fit a Quiet Hunt into a Weekend in Phoenix

The hike starts at 9:00 on Sunday, so it's most convenient to come on Saturday: the evening to rest, the morning to pick mushrooms. After returning and a Carpathian lunch, the SPA is a good place to go: the warm water and lounge area will quickly convince you that Sunday was a success. Offer valid until November 30, 2026 «"Early Bird"»: 10% discount on accommodation, no prepayment, free cancellation 7 days before arrival, and 3 hours of SPA daily already included in the price.

If you have more than one day, add other autumn activities to your weekend: excursions, quad bikes or tubing. We have collected all the options in the guide "«What to do in Bukovel in autumn». You can choose accommodation and book dates on the pages residence and booking.
